Newcastle only took one point from relegated Leeds (2-2), a bad deal in the Champions League race on Saturday during the 36th day of the Premier League.
A point that does not suit anyone. At the end of a match as intense as it was exciting, Leeds United and Newcastle United failed to decide (2-2). The Whites started the match perfectly by opening the scoring through Luke Ayling, who followed well Rodrigo’s header pushed back by Nick Pope (7e). Sam Allardyce’s men did not go far from doing the break before half an hour of play. But the penalty obtained by Junior Firpo and struck by Patrick Bamford was captured, in two stages, by the Magpies goalkeeper. And in the last quarter of an hour of play, Rasmus Kristensen, after a blocked ball, fired a half-volley with the right foot which left no chance for Nick Pope (79e). The end of the match was intense but the two teams finally left with a draw (2-2). With this point, Newcastle (a little) temporarily increases its lead over Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for third place. Leeds, for their part, go back – at least for the moment – to the 18e place.
