The idea of locating the BMX skate park planned in Jarmen at the port exit has apparently fallen through. This location was favored by the city representatives and would harmonize with the intended reorientation of the use of the entire area on the Peene towards more tourism and leisure activities. But at this point, the inquiries made by the administration revealed that the necessary building rights could only be obtained with enormous effort, as Mayor André Werner reported to the Nordkurier request.

Municipality needs green light from district

Which leads to enormous costs and takes a lot of time, i.e. would put the project on the back burner. After all, the feasibility study for the area at the Bollwerk is still a long time coming. The municipality, on the other hand, is aiming to start construction in 2023, according to Werner.

The head of the town hall made it clear that this project is unfortunately weighted differently in legal terms than, for example, a playground that does not require the green light from the district. “We definitely have to apply for a building permit for a skate park like this, no matter where it goes.”

60,000 euros — plus work assignments

One of the alternatives discussed was the rear area at Schützenplatz, but at the moment the focus seems to be primarily on the sports field ensemble in the green areas on the western edge of the town. There are still talks with the city representatives, explained André Werner, for whom this idea for the benefit of young people has been a kind of personal matter of the heart from the very beginning.

It was not for nothing that the man even asked for appropriate donations in his invitation to the Autobahnstadt’s annual reception. After all, an initial cost estimate for planning and material is around 60,000 euros for the course, the drafts of which were presented to the public for the first time at a day of action at the end of October (the Nordkurier reported). Personal contributions to the assembly and design of the environment are excluded, for which the municipality also wants to call for work assignments.

Feine Sahne singer collects donations

The said day of action at the port, impressively framed by demonstrations by the association “Rollkollektiv 4 Tore” from Neubrandenburg and hands-on offers for local children and young people on skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes, put another prominent supporter in the limelight: Jan Gorkow, as Monchi known frontman of the band “Feine Sahne Fischfilet”. Having grown up in Jarmen and one of the driving forces behind the idea, he has been campaigning for the financing since last spring, collecting a lot of money from his fans, especially at his readings.

But some donations have already been received locally on the corresponding account of the city, now even something from the parish of Jarmen-Tutow has been added. They recently made a collection on this subject at the Sunday service. Pastor Arnold Pett was able to present the mayor with a good 110 euros for this purpose.

In total, as André Werner explained, the amount donated has meanwhile increased to more than 24,000 euros. And the head of the town hall never tires of campaigning elsewhere for money for this purpose. For example, at the beginning of June there will be a charity run as part of a Children’s Day festival, where the youngsters will receive a fee for each lap and part of this will go to the skate park.
