Already 9 chemotherapies, 7 left: Hamsanandini fights breast cancer

Telugu actress Hamsanandini talks about her experience of fighting cancer. Hamsanandini, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, has written openly about her struggle to overcome her condition of grade three invasive carcinoma.

Hamsanandini’s post –

No matter what life does to me, no matter how unfair it may seem, I refuse to present myself as a victim. I refuse to be ruled by fear, pessimism and negativity. I refuse to give up. I will leap forward with courage and love.

Four months ago, I experienced a small lump in my chest. I knew in that moment that my life was never going to be the same. I lost my mother to a terrible disease 18 years ago and since then I have lived in its darkest shadow. I was scared.

Within a few hours, I went to a mammography clinic and had my tumor examined. He suggested that I need a biopsy and asked me to contact a surgical oncologist immediately. The biopsy confirmed all my fears and I was diagnosed with grade three invasive carcinoma (breast cancer).

After several scans and tests, I bravely walked to the operating theater where my tumor was removed. At this point, the doctors confirmed that there was no infection, and the earlier discovery was fortunate. A silver lining.

Relief was short-lived as BRCA1 (hereditary breast cancer) was tested positive. This means that I have a genetic mutation that almost guarantees that I have a 70 percent chance of developing another breast cancer and a 45 percent chance of ovarian cancer throughout my life. The only way to mitigate the risk is through some extensive preventive surgery that I have to undergo before claiming success.

Currently, I have already undergone 9 chemotherapy cycles, with 7 more remaining.

I have made some promises to myself: – I will not allow this disease to define my life and I will fight it with a smile and success. I will return to the screen with a better and stronger. I tell my story to help teach and inspire others. And, I consciously celebrate life and everything it promises.

My inbox is full of your messages inquiring about my absence. To all of you, I want to say a big thank you for your love and care that has led me forward through this ordeal. I assure you that I am in the care of an extraordinary team of doctors. It’s with the uncontrollable support of my family, friends and the cinematic fraternity that I struggle with an intense level of positivity and gratitude. Love, swan …
