After 40 regular-season games and two playoff semifinals, the 2023 XFL season comes down to this: One last battle to decide who’ll be crowned champion. And through 30 minutes of play, the Arlington Renegades look like they could to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the XFL this season — scoring on all four first half possessions to take a 20-6 lead over the D.C. Defenders at halftime.

The Defenders and Renegades took very different paths to the XFL Championship Game (although we did have them ranked 1-2 in our preseason power rankings). The Defenders have been the team to beat from the season’s opening kickoff, losing only once all year. The Renegades’ road was full of bumps, including a regular season where they finished just 4-6 but managed a fortunate playoff berth due to being in a weak division — before pulling off a playoff stunner.

D.C. entered kickoff as 8.5-point favorites via Caesars Sportsbook, but as we saw just last month, Arlington quarterback and Luis Perez and company have provided a scare. Perez is 18 of 23 for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
