Security camera records police attack on merchant
After attacking the owner of a bar in the city of Formosa, Goiás, located on the outskirts of Brasília, the Military Police sergeant, Ildeval Machado de Sousa

The soldier was arrested on Friday afternoon (12) and, during his testimony at the Formosa police station, he chose to remain silent most of the time.
The sergeant’s defense issued a note claiming that the images released by the media and social networks do not represent the totality of the facts.
The episode of aggression was captured by a security camera. In the images, the police officer orders the bar owner to move away from the counter, but he refuses and asks for calm.
Then, the sergeant uses pepper spray a few centimeters from the face of the man, who was next to his four-month pregnant wife.
The sergeant continues the aggression, landing a knee and trying to pull the bar owner off the bar. The man defends himself and the officer responds with more pepper spray in the face and kicks. The attacks were also recorded by people present at the scene.
Subsequently, the policeman pulls out a stun gun and hits the man in the head with the butt, who begins to bleed profusely. Two people enter the bar and ask the officer to calm down, who continues to point the stun gun.
The owner of the bar leaves the establishment with blood on his hands, arms and head, while a man in a white shirt again asks the PM to calm down.
Once outside, the policeman trips the owner of the bar, who was already surrendered and handcuffed. Again, people ask the PM to calm down. Since the attacks, which took place on Friday afternoon, the bar has been closed. According to neighbors, the owners did not return to the site.
In telephone contact, the owners of the bar said they were shaken. The man suffered injuries to the body and needed to take four stitches in the head due to the rifle butt. His pregnant wife became ill and had to be taken to the hospital.
Sergeant Ildeval’s residence is a few meters from the bar, on the other side of the street. According to the owner of the establishment’s report to the police, the PM was leaving the house to go to work when he stopped at the bar to complain about the loud music. Witnesses claimed that the volume came from a car parked in front of the site.

In a statement, the Military Police of the Federal District said that it will investigate the disciplinary conduct of the police officer and that measures related to the criminal record are under the responsibility of the Civil Police of Formosa.
The corporation stressed that it requires exemplary conduct from its members and that any reports of deviation are promptly investigated, following due legal process.

The sergeant’s defense released a note in which it reiterates that it is representing the police officer and highlights that the images released by the media and social networks do not present the complete version of the facts. They argue that the images only show isolated moments that fail to portray the real dynamics of events. The defense awaits the procedures of the authorities to clarify the truth of the facts and the legitimacy of the action of the Military Police.
