No third medal for France! After those of Clarisse Agbégnénou and Teddy Riner individually, France failed to win its third gold medal at the Judo Worlds. This Sunday, in Doha in Qatar, the Blues were narrowly beaten by Japan, four wins to three, in the mixed team final. It was in a last decisive fight that Margaux Pinot lost to Saki Niizoe, in the -70 kg category.

However, the French had entered their final perfectly, thanks to an ippon signed Joan-Benjamin Gaba after only a few seconds during the first fight, in the -73 kg category.

A first point obtained, then a second thanks to Margaux Pinot (-70 kg), again by ippon, this time with a golden score. In -90 kg, it was the Japanese Goki Tajima who then won the golden score against Maxime-Gael Ngayap Hambou, before Coralie Hayme offered a third fight to France in stride.

Five consecutive defeats in the final for the Blues

If Joseph Terhec did not manage to finish the job in +90 kg, Sarah-Léonie Cysique (-57 kg), thought she could do it, before suffering an ippon. To decide between the two teams, a final fight took place. A revenge between Margaux Pinot and Saki Niizoe, who, this time, turned in favor of the Japanese, at the end of the suspense at the golden score. Yet Margaux Pinot thought she had won, before her victory was invalidated by the referee.

A last point which allowed Japan to continue its domination in the category. Since the introduction of the mixed team event at the 2017 Worlds, Japan have never lost, and beat France in the final for the fifth consecutive time on Sunday.
