Until the night of Saturday May 13 Super Mario Bros has 2,430,000 tickets throughout the year according to Ultracine. This is barely 19,000 fewer people than Puss in Boots. So today, Sunday the 14th, between the cinemas that are yet to be processed yesterday and the first sales of the day, the character born from Nintendo will become the highest grossing film of this 2023 in Argentina.
The cat and Don Mario are the only premieres of the year that have exceeded two million so far. Avatar also did it only with this year’s sales, but it was released in 2022.
Super Mario has collected 2,588 million pesos against the 1,960 million of El gato. Therefore, the average paid by Mario was 1,064 each entry against 800 for El gato. There is no difference in formats and composition of the public that buys tickets, El gato simply premiered in January and inflation raised the amounts paid.
At the moment there are no other movies that have passed the million viewers either, but Guardians of the Galaxy is firmly approaching.
