  • The recital “Fly without a net” will take place on June 7 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. The income from the tickets will go entirely to the two organizations.

The tango and fado singer María Lavalle will offer a single concert in Madrid in which he will review the themes of the authors who have marked his career, including Amália Rodrigues, Facundo Cabral, Javier Krahe, Chavela Vargas or Edith Piaf.

The proceeds from this charity concert, “Fly without a net”will go entirely to the work of the human rights organization Amnesty International and the Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo – Ecodes. Esteban Beltrán, Director of Amnesty International and Mario Rodríguez, Associate Director of Just Transition of Ecodes, will be present and will make a brief intervention on the risks of technology on human rights and how they impact the care of the planet.

I am very concerned about how technology can be very useful and very dangerous at the same time when used without control, or to restrict the rights of vulnerable groups. In addition, we all have to get involved in the defense of the environment and human rights and that technology is a tool to achieve it, not a threat”, affirmed María Lavalle.
It is not the first time that Lavalle has offered a benefit concert for Amnesty International, an organization with which she has been associated for many years. In addition, a zero row will be available to support the work of these organizations in their different fields.

Technology and human rights

Mass surveillance, facial recognition in public places, spying on journalists, activists and opponents, killer robots, unregulated artificial intelligence… New technologies offer numerous threats to human rights around the world.

Amnesty International offered technical support, through mobile phone forensics, to the Pegasus project. This collaborative investigation involving more than 80 journalists from 17 media organizations led by Forbidden Stories revealed how Pegasus spyware, from Israeli company NSO Group, was used to subtract information from up to 50,000 numbers of possible targetswhich included activists, journalists and political figures from around the world, including heads of state.

In addition, the organization has recently called on the European Union to regulate artificial intelligence and has warned about the risks of facial recognition and its possible discriminatory practices.

technology and environment

Excessive energy consumption, the high volume of greenhouse gas emissions or the extraction of raw materials, such as critical minerals are factors that contribute to the climate change, which destroy ecosystems and biodiversity and endanger ancient indigenous cultures. The technological and digital sector, through the emails that are sent, the photographs that are uploaded to the cloud, the messages in the chat, the movies that are watched in streaming or the documents that circulate through social networks also have a high environmental impact, not always taken into account, on the planet.

Ecodes works so that technology companies and the digital sector invest and use the most energy efficient systems possible, so that all the materials used are reused and recycled, so that electronic devices can be repaired and to reduce digital waste. . We have also participated in the European campaign to develop a law regulating the production of electric batteries and a law on critical raw materials so that the production of batteries and the extraction of critical raw materials, like minerals, respect the environment, human rights, avoid double standards and the practice of greenwashing. Also to apply a due diligence law that allows this entire process to be transparent and that guarantees the protection of the environment and respect for human rights.
