In the Finnish octet “A” all three confrontations turned out to be stubborn. The French and the Austrians gave not the most scoring, but very tense match, in which only the special teams of the majority were able to prove themselves. Austria was summed up by a double removal at the end of the third period, due to which overtime had to start in a 3-on-5 format. The “tricolors” did not take advantage of the double majority, but as soon as the opponent had a fourth player, Sasha Trey put his stick on the “nickle” under Florian Shakiashvili’s long-range throw and brought victory to France.

The Danes were considered favorites in the duel with Hungary, but it was not so easy to break the uncompromising Magyars. Two goals from Nikolai Elers helped – and also in the majority. The Hungarians returned intrigue to the match in the third period, but not for long – there was no sensation.

The evening match between the Germans and the Finns was held according to the key rank. “Bundestim” well rested on Friday with the Swedes, and the sons of Suomi could not afford a second defeat at the start of the home World Cup. Expectations justified both those and others. The Finns did not dictate the conditions at all, Germany managed to feel both in the role of catching up and in the role of leader. The fiery 10-minute period in the second period, when the teams for two figured out four goals, also did not give anyone an advantage. But in the third period, the seasoned wolves of the Finns still said a word. And Lehtonen’s goal did not allow Suomi fans to feel sad from the loss of points.

Haas, 41.59 – Bol.). 5:0 – K.Turkuf (R.Löffl, 43.46 – Bol.). 6:0 – M.Miranda (T.Richard, C.Bertshi, 50.39). 7:0 – Bertshi (Turkuf, 57.05).

In the match between Switzerland and Slovenia, the special teams of the “crusader” majority deprived the fans of intrigue long before the final siren. The first four penalties of Slovenes were punished with 100 percent implementation. Denis Malgin and Geitan Haas, who scored three points each, did their best. In the third period, Slovenia also frankly quit playing, realizing that the match could not be saved, and the forces would be useful for other battles. As a result, another defeat in this group.

But Norway and Kazakhstan presented a real thriller. The Vikings seemed to feel like the masters of the situation after a small blitzkrieg in the first period. But the Kazakhs, despite the eccentricities in defense, managed not to fall out of the fairway and did not stop playing like the Slovenes. For which they were rewarded by Lady Luck. Two majority allowed Kazakhstan to make a comeback from 1:3, and the third goal was also lucky – it was cut off by the Norwegian defender. And then there was overtime, and the first shootout series in this championship. Stretched for 12 attempts. Roman Starchenko, one of the Kazakh leaders, put a winning point in it.

The evening match with the other hosts of the championship – the Latvians – again silenced the arena in Riga already in the first minute. A classy pass from Tseglarik from behind the gate, without looking, baffled the defense, and Sukel unsealed Silovs with a well-aimed throw. But Slovakia is not Canada, but the Latvians have learned a painful Friday lesson. And they played much better. At the end of the second period, Rodrigo Abols robbed his opponent on his blue line, rushed off to a rendezvous with Škorvanek and played his moment by notes. But in the final third, luck was already with the Slovaks, and Grivik’s goal allowed them to put three points into the piggy bank.
