Ranking battles in the pack of predators – the lions bared their claws on Monday evening! Because in “ The lion’s den” (Vox) protein was on the menu – and that’s why the investors tore themselves!

Because the newly-wed founding couple Alissa (28) and Dominik Kübler (33) changed their diet to vegan three years ago, the two suddenly faced a problem: as sports freaks, they value a high-protein diet. Dominik Kübler: “There are proteins in meat and dairy products – both difficult.”

Instead of relying on plant-based protein shakes, the two went looking for an ingredient that they could incorporate into a whole meal – and finally landed on protein-rich sauce. For their start-up “Veprosa” they developed four varieties: tomato sauce, green pesto, light sauce and yellow curry.

Pump up the cash register with protein powder? The idea made the lions’ mouths water. The Küblers wanted 100,000 euros for 13 percent of their company.

A requirement that investor Nils Glagau (47) did not even shake. The Orthomol boss even promised: “You decide strategically for yourself whether you want to go in a large and international direction or rather in a more special premium corner – I can make this possible for you.”

Ralf Dümmel (56) also liked the idea of the protein sauces! His offer: 100,000 euros, but he asked for 18 percent.

Dumping-Dummel pressed the price brake – but Mr. Regal had not expected this offer! Because young lion Tillman Schulz (33) countered: “I am the youngest and also the newest lion. And if there’s anyone in the lion line who truly understands food from the bottom up, it’s me!”

Schulz continues: “It’s always stupid to knock who has more shelf space.” Instead of boasting about sales space, he simply let his money do the talking – and quickly doubled the offer to 200,000 euros for 13 percent!

Double the cash for Dümmel dumping – could the young lion chase Mr. Regal off the sales floor with that?

Although the founding couple were impressed by the new offer, they didn’t really want to work with Schulz. Her real favourite: Dümmel of all people!

Instead of simply going for the highest purchase price, Alissa Kübler asked again whether the 18 percent was really Dümmel’s last offer. They weren’t! Dümmel actually improved again, at least drew level with Glagau – and thus secured the contract!

Despite the offer being half as high: “Veprosa” went to Dümmel! Big cheers after tough negotiations – Mr. Regal remains the Lion King!

Alissa Kübler after the pitch: “I think Ralf Dümmel would have lost the deal if he hadn’t followed suit.”

Good for both sides because the deal came about after the show.
