Assassination is scheduled to start filming in September. According to US media, some top-class Hollywood stars will be in front of the camera for the thriller.

60 years after the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy, a feature film is reportedly set to revisit the historic event.

The thriller “Assassination” is to be shot with a star cast including Al Pacino, John Travolta, Viggo Mortensen, Shia LaBeouf and Courtney Love, as reported by the US trade journals “Variety” and “Deadline.com”. The director is the award-winning US author David Mamet, who wrote the screenplays for films such as “Wag the Dog”, “When the Postman Rings Twice” and “Glengarry Glen Ross”.

He wrote the “Assassination” script together with Nicholas Celozzi, a great-nephew of the notorious mafia boss Sam Giancana (1908-1975). The film looks at possible mafia involvements. Filming is slated to begin in September in Vancouver, Canada.

Kennedy was shot dead in an open car in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. A commission of inquiry came to the conclusion that the alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. To this day, the circumstances of the assassination and the murder of Oswald in front of live television cameras that followed shortly thereafter are the source of numerous conspiracy theories.

In 1991, the film “JFK – Tatort Dallas” by director Oliver Stone caused a stir. It was based on a book by former New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who tried to prove in court in the late 1960s that Oswald could not have been the sole shooter.
