Employment continues to grow in this month of May at a tremendous pace after the record reached in April. In the first fifteen days, more than 160,000 jobs have been created, in original terms, which has allowed Social Security to overcome the barrier of 20.8 million affiliates for the first time in history, according to the biweekly advance published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Social Security.

“An extraordinary number of jobs are being created again,” boasted the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, during the press conference after the Council of Ministers, in which he expressed his confidence that the upward revisions to the economy Spanish that are being announced by national and international organizations “will go further” given the dynamism observed in this second quarter of the year.

The good performance of the Spanish economy is also reflected, according to the minister, in the evolution of business investment or in the “extraordinary” export behavior of Spanish companies.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the average affiliation in the period increased by 116,779 people. This represents 25% more, eliminating these calendar factors from the statistics, a growth rate almost two and a half times higher than that registered in 2022 (40,780), which was already highly dynamic in the labor market.

With the latest data available, the total number of affiliates stands at 20,703,010, which is 462,000 more than at the end of last year, so that practically as many jobs have been created so far this year as in all of 2022. In addition , 941,000 more are registered than at the end of 2021 and more than 1.2 million more than before the pandemic.
