The anthropologist and researcher from the Ministry of Education, Sergio Caviglia, appeared at the 46th edition with his new material that seeks to explore the artistic expression of the native peoples in the province.
On May 11, the Ministry of Education of the province presented the book “Memories on the rocks. 8,000 years of native art in Chubut”, at the 46th Buenos Aires International Book Fair.
The book was presented by its author: Sergio Caviglia, who is an anthropologist and researcher at the Provincial Center for Educational Information (CPIE) of the provincial portfolio.
The launch took place in the Ocher Pavilion of the Book Fair, at the stand of the Patagonia Cultural Entity.
“Memories in the Rocks”
The book proposes an exploration for 8,000 years of the Art of the Original Peoples of the province.
As the author himself explains, “one of its most impressive expressions are the paintings and engravings on caves, eaves, and rocks. The landscapes chosen to carry them out are also part of the selected canvas. In our province, today we have more than 100 sites with this art”.
Caviglia also remarked that “this art arises from the cultivation of an intimacy with life, with the earth, with the sacred, as the art of understanding the fundamental unity of all the aspects that make up life. The cave paintings show us which are those interior maps, those paths, which operate simply and simply because of their symbolic efficacy”.
