The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that 41 cases of omicron had already been identified in Russia. She noted that, unlike other strains, rats and mice are infected with it. The main symptoms of infection with the new omicron coronavirus strain are sore throat and fever, said Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.
“We see that the clinical picture of omicron is dominated by such signs of acute respiratory viral infections as sore throat, low-grade fever, myalgia. General symptoms, intoxication are sometimes very similar to the course of influenza, ”said Mr. Murashko at a meeting on the fight against coronavirus.
Ms Popova said that 41 cases of omicron infection have already been identified in Russia. All patients are in the hospital.
“And already today is an important result of our research: we clearly see that the new omicron strain is infecting mice and rats. We have not observed this for the previous types of strains, ”said the head of Rospotrebnadzor.
Omicron began spreading from African countries in November. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), those who have been ill and vaccinated fall ill with it, and the effectiveness of the available vaccines against the new strain has not yet been confirmed. Rospotrebnadzor called this option more infectious than the previous ones. This option became predominant in the United States in one week.
