Macron announces the creation of 16 medical research centers to try to catch up with the French delay

At the Institut Curie, the Head of State presented funding of more than 700 million euros to create ten new IHUs and five clusters bringing together the private and public sectors.

This was one of candidate Macron’s promises in 2022: to make France a player that counts in the world of medical research, particularly in biomedicines, this aspect of pharmaceutical innovation set to explode in the coming years. A quantified objective was even announced in October: to produce in France at least 20 of these therapies derived from living organisms (as opposed to chemical pharmacopoeia) in 2030, against 8 in 2020. On Tuesday, traveling to the Institut Curie in Saint- Cloud, center of excellence in oncology, Emmanuel Macron unveiled the structures through which he hopes to create virtuous synergies between universities, hospitals and companies capable of making France catch up with the delay in this area.
