NARRATIVE – The governor of the Banque du Liban had refused to appear for questioning in Paris.

The French investigating judge in charge of the investigation into the European heritage of the governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salamé, issued an international arrest warrant against the latter on Tuesday. He had not gone to his summons to Paris with a possible indictment at stake. The magistrate had traveled to Beirut several times to interview the governor of the central bank, accused of having embezzled more than 300 million dollars as part of an investigation involving several European jurisdictions. Riad Salamé is suspected of money laundering through real estate investments in several European capitals on behalf of his family and relatives.
