Final day of heart attack in the waters of the Arousa estuary. The third and last day of regattas for the 420 Spanish Cup, a test organized by the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, has been very tight. With three leading crews separated by only two points, the last three races played have been decisive for a victory that finally went to the hands of the Catalans Sebastian Riquelme and Miquel Pérez, from Club Nàutic el Balís.

The parties were not wrong. The third day of competition received the 60 participating crews with strong winds from the northeast component, reaching close to 20 knots of intensity at certain times of the morning. With these conditions and everything to be decided, the fleet went out into the water ready to give its hundred percent in this last assault on the race course.

Three fourth places were enough for the Catalan team made up of Sebastian Riquelme and Miquel Pérez, from Club Nàutic el Balís, to be able to maintain their leadership until the end, thus becoming absolute winners of the Spanish Cup. They also did so with a four point advantage over the second placed, who were finally the Canaries Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernández with two sevenths and a third scored.

Behind the representatives of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, the third place on the podium was occupied by Marc Mesquida and Ramón Jaume from the Balearic Islands, who sail under the banner of Club Nàutic S’Arenal. Mesquida and Jaume were the best of this last day, adding two partial victories and a third place.

In the women’s classification, the title of winners went to the sisters Paula and Isabel Laiseca from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, closely followed by the sailors from the S’Arenal Náutic Club María Perelló and Marta Cardona, who were second just two points from the canaries. The third position, on the other hand, was occupied by Nora García and Mariona Ventura from Club Nàutic el Masnou.

The 420 Spanish Cup also rewarded the best in the under-19 and under-17 categories in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions. In the under-19 category, the winners were Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernández and the crew made up of María Perelló and Marta Cardona, while in the under-17 category the victory went to Miguel Padrón and Luis Mesa from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and the Galician women Natalia Dominguez and Ines Ameneiro.

Domínguez and Ameneiro, the very young sailors who sail under the pennants of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo and the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, claimed a brilliant victory in their category and were also eighth overall in the women’s category.

Also good performance, among the Galician representatives, by Pablo Rodríguez and Pablo Llorens of the Royal Yacht Clubs of Rodeira and A Coruña, who finished in fourteenth position after going from less to more since the first day of regatta.

Once the competition is over, at 17:00 hours, the award of trophies will take place in the facilities of the Centro Galego de Vela. Manuel Villaverde, president of the Real Federación Gallega de Vela; José Ramón Lete, General Secretary for Deporte de la Xunta de Galicia; Argimiro Serén, sports councilor from Vilagarcía de Arousa; Álvaro Carou, Tourism councillor; and Juan Andrés Pérez, Maritime Captain of Vilagarcía were responsible for delivering the awards to the winners of the date.
