MADRID, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has drawn a comparison between the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan and has suggested that the war could end once “the United States abandons its allies”, as has happened in the past.

Lavrov thus recalled the attitude of Washington, which “abandoned the Afghan leadership in which they had trusted during 20 years of occupation.” “I hope modern politicians pay attention to history,” Lavrov said in an interview with Tsargrad television.

In this sense, he has asserted that “analysts have written a lot about this.” “They have predicted that everything will go ahead as long as the Americans need it. These people, the Ukrainian government, will be in power as long as the United States needs them,” she pointed out.

In addition, he explained that although there are currently no contacts at the level of the Foreign Minister between Russia and the United States, some communications are maintained through the different Administrations to address the detention of Americans who are still detained in Russia.

“Sometimes we receive calls from Washington in which they ask us as usual, that we release Paul Whelan. Now they are also calling to release the journalist, or that is what they call him, Evan Gershkovich,” he pointed out before clarifying that the parties are also addressing the working conditions of diplomats from both countries.
