Julia Wendell, 21, from Poland, who falsely claimed to be Madeleine McCann, said she was “hospitalized for seven hours” this week and would step away from all social media.

The young woman gained internet fame earlier this year after presenting alleged evidence on Instagram that suggested she could be the Leicestershire girl who disappeared in 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal.

However, the issue was dropped after a genetic test showed that Julia was almost 100% Polish.

After the fact, the young woman and the investigator Fia Johansson – who helped to support the theory that the girl was Madeleine – had a public disagreement, and the professional claimed that Julia was reluctant to accept the result of the exam.

Since then, the Polish woman has launched a new account on Instagram, in which, last Sunday (14), she claimed that she was in the hospital.

“I have been hospitalized for the last seven hours. I just got back home and I think it’s best to stay away from social media, but I’ll try to post Monte [seu gato] sometimes and reply to your messages,” Julia wrote. “But it’s a difficult time and I need a lot of rest and… I hope you understand.”

Despite announcing that she was moving away from the internet, she continues to post on Instagram. Only this Tuesday (16), she has already made six publications in the feed, which she also shared in Stories.

Julia did not reveal the reason for the hospitalization, but, during the time that she claimed to be Madeleine, Fia said that the young woman suffered a series of health problems for supposedly having taken pills since she was very young.

The Polish woman’s family has repeatedly and emphatically rejected all these allegations.
