The marginal value for Petrobras is based on the opportunity cost, according to the statement, given the various alternatives for the company.

The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, said in a social network that the company’s new strategy for prices, announced this Tuesday morning, seeks to avoid passing on the volatility of the international market and the exchange rate, “by while we preserve a competitive environment under the terms of the current legislation”, he informed. According to him, the new commercial strategy will end the mandatory subordination to the import parity price (PPI), maintaining the alignment with competitive prices by sales point, with a view to the best alternative accessible to the consumer.

“Our model will consider the company’s participation and the competitive price in each market and region, the optimization of our refining assets and profitability in a sustainable way, guaranteeing much more efficiency and competitiveness”, said Prates. “I stress that we are going to continue to follow the market benchmarks, without giving up the competitive advantages of being a company with a large production capacity and a distribution and transport structure throughout the country”, he concluded.

According to a statement released earlier, Petrobras’ new policy leaves the PPI aside, taking into account the customer’s alternative cost, as a value to be prioritized in pricing, and the marginal value for Petrobras. The customer’s alternative cost includes the main supply alternatives, whether suppliers of the same products or substitute products, which, according to some analysts, the company already does today.

The marginal value for Petrobras is based on the opportunity cost, according to the statement, given the various alternatives for the company, among them, production, import and export of said product and/or oil used in refining, which, also in the opinion of analysts, may include PPI.
