These tours made it possible to identify the output of carbon dioxide (CO2) in high concentrations at various points on the mountain, located in a section less than 20 meters long.

This team also found that the temperature of the gases reaches 66°C, that they have a unidentified odor and irritating vapors in the sector.

“Although these exit points are located on the slopes of the Cerro Bravo volcano, on volcanic deposits, this phenomenon does not necessarily have to be due to the activity of this volcano,” the entity clarified.

As part of peace of mind, the Geological Service clarifies that the activity of this geological structure has remained at very low levels in recent years, registering very little seismicity and no deformation of the surface.

“It is currently in activity level Green (active but at rest). Nevertheless, nor can a possible volcanic origin of these gases be ruled out and we must continue investigating”, detailed the geological authority.
