AMIENS – What do we know exactly about the attack on Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, the great-nephew of Brigitte Macron, in front of the family chocolate factory last Monday in Amiens? The victim’s father, Jean-Alexandre Trogneux, recounted his version of the facts in the columns of the Parisian.
According to him, shortly after the interview with Emmanuel Macron at 8 p.m. on TF1, Jean-Baptiste Trogneux was taken to task by a few young people. The boss of the chocolate factory sees these “drumming on the doors and on the windows” of his sign. Once recognized, “the blows started to rain” : “punches and kicks” who force him to get down “in a ball, to protect themselves”. The individuals fled following the intervention of several neighbours.
Eight people are in custody: seven men aged 20 to 35, and a 16-year-old girl. Two of them are under curatorship and another under guardianship. Three were released and spoke at the microphone of RMC in order to communicate a different version of the facts. They explain in particular that Jean-Baptiste Trogneux would have previously jostled their comrade.
Three of the alleged attackers were the subject of an immediate appearance today. It ended in a remand to June 16, 2023 and, in the meantime, the three will remain incarcerated. The prosecutor has not yet communicated publicly about this affair, the minutes of which, for once, could not be consulted by the press.

Unanimous reactions from the political class
The political class is unanimous: it is unacceptable for a member of the presidential family to be intimidated, then assaulted, in this way. All members of the majority condemned this attack.
Same story on the opposition side. Alexis Corbière (LFI) declared that “hitting the great-nephew of a politician, to hit him, is a cowardly act”. Marine Le Pen (RN) indicated that “The violence is going further and further and the attack on Brigitte Macron’s grand-nephew will have to be very severely sanctioned by the courts.” Sandrine Rousseau (EELV) evokes an act “absolutely outrageous”.
Note that Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of LFI, preferred to recall above all that activists from his political party were also attacked, without causing a stir. “commentators indifferent to the attempted murders and racist attacks against the rebellious”. This attack, which took place in a context of “casserolades”and distrust of the French population against the policy pursued by the executive, after a dozen days of mobilization against the pension law, raises several questions.
If the condemnation joined by all the country’s media editorial writers is obvious common sense, several statements by people involved in the case remain to be clarified. Clarifications that the presidential communication did not want to wait, favoring the field of emotion.
The temptation to highlight the (condemned) acts of individuals in the public debate seems particularly strong for the majority, placed in a major political impasse. A stalemate that sees social dialogue reduced to nothing and the obvious increase in a logic of ordered repression to the police, reported in a UN report.
Would the possibility of denouncing violence, intolerable, be timely for the President of the Republic? A president whose protection of his family also questions, following the growing hostility of the French as to his policy and the refusal, obviously, to turn the page on pension reform.
