The regions that changed hands in Western and Central Greece

At Western and Central Greece in the 2019 elections N.D. managed to change the color of the electoral map in six of the eight districts. From 2015, only Evrytania was blue, which did not change its color in 2019, and the only region in which the SYRIZA managed to keep the first place was that of Achaia.

In Aetoloacarnania the N.D. won in the last elections 40.95% of the votes and elected three MPs, Kostas Karagounis, Marios Salmas and Spilios Livanos. SYRIZA with 33.89% won two seats and elected Giorgos Varemenos and Thanos Moraitis, while KINAL, with which Dimitris Konstantopoulos was elected, and KKE, which sent Nikolos Papanastasis to Parliament, won one seat.

In Ilia the N.D. won three seats with a percentage of 36.03% and left SYRIZA in second place, which received 34.82%. The ruling party elected Dionysias Augerinopoulos, Costas Tzavaras and Andreas Nikolopoulos. SYRIZA won one seat with Dionysis Kalamatianos, while KINAL also won one seat, securing 14.79% and electing Michalis Katrinis.

At Boeotia N.D. and SYRIZA received from one seat. The ruling party took first place with 36.25% and SYRIZA was second with 32.27%. In September 2015, SYRIZA was first with 37.69% and N.D. he had received only 23.30% of the votes. In 2019, Andreas Koutsoumbas was elected with the ruling party and Iota Poulos with SYRIZA. The third seat of the district was taken by KINAL, which gathered a percentage of 9.70% and elected Giorgos Mulkiotis.

In Euboea SYRIZA lost in 2019 two of the four seats it had won in the 2015 elections.

N.D. achieved the reversal in this district as well and came first with 36.61%. It received three seats and elected Simos Kedikoglou, Athanasios Zebilis and Spyros Pneumatikos. SYRIZA with 34.91% sent two MPs to the Parliament, Evangelos Apostolou and Miltiadis Hatzigiannakis. The seat in Evia was also won by the KKE, which obtained a percentage of 4.98% and elected Giorgos Marinos.

At Fthiotida we had another upset, with N.D. to record an increase in its percentage of more than 12 points compared to the elections of September 2015. In particular, the ruling party got 43.79% of the votes and won four seats, while SYRIZA was limited to one seat, which got a percentage of 31 .64%. In September 2015, the distribution of seats was reversed, as at that time SYRIZA had won the first place in the region with 34.62% against 31.05% received by ND. In 2019 with N.D. Christos Staikouras, Yiannis Oikonomou, Giorgos Kotronias and Themis Heimaras were elected, who resigned last January and was replaced by Eleni Makri Theodorou. Yannis Sarakiotis was elected with SYRIZA.

The monohedral ones

In the two mono-sectors of the region of Central Greece, in Evrytania and Fokida, the N.D. dominated. In Evritania, the ruling party came first in September 2015 as well, but by a smaller margin. In particular, in 2019 the N.D. got 48.87% and won the seat with Konstantinos Kontogeorgos, while SYRIZA was limited to 29.54%. In 2015 the difference between the two parties was very small. N.D. it was then first with 34.33% against SYRIZA’s 33.47%.

At Phocis we had a reversal, as the N.D. won the only seat in the region with a percentage of 44.75% and elected Yiannis Bougas. SYRIZA was second with a percentage of 29.16%.
