Japan recorded a trade deficit of 432,413 million yen (about 2,900 million euros) in April, almost half that in the same month of the previous year, as reported today by the Japanese Government. The April deficit represented 49.4% year-on-year less and is 42.7% lower than the negative output recorded in March, according to data published this Thursday by the Ministry of Finance.
Exports grew by 2.6% year-on-year in April, to 8.29 trillion yen (55,580 million euros), and imports fell by 2.3%, to 8.72 trillion yen (58,480 million euros). .

By country, Japan recorded a deficit of 460,879 million yen (3,090 million euros) with China, its largest trading partner, 168.2% more than the negative balance obtained a year earlier. With the first economy in the world and its second trading partner, the United States, the Asian country obtained a surplus of 794,830 million yen (5,330 million euros), 23% more year-on-year.
With the European Union, its third trading partner, Japan recorded a deficit of 72,402 million yen (486 million euros), which is 62.2% less than that recorded in April 2022.
