News from Angola – The Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI) will carry out the process of updating customer accounts, from the 1st of May to the 30th of July of the current year,
According to the press release that Notícias de Angola had access to today, the bank clarifies that this measure is part of the process of updating the database and registration, and therefore, all customers are subject to compliance with this measure, under penalty of of their bank accounts being blocked and subsequently closed.
According to the document, the measure also aims to fully comply with Law No. 5/2020, of January 27, the Law to Prevent and Combat Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, in conjunction with the Notices No. 14/2020 and No. 3/2023, all from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
To this end, in order to guarantee the security of operations, account updates will be carried out at any of the BCI service points.
Founded in 1991, BCI managed the Angolan State until 2022, when it was sold to a private entity, within the framework of the Privatization Program (PROPRIV) carried out by the Institute for the Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE).
