The expression that today gives the title to this text is quite common, everyone has heard or heard it almost daily. I’m not a scholar of expressions or adages, but I’m old enough to try to pass something on, even here at Blog Vermelho – a place where smart people are present and I have a high degree of esteem, after all, we are all Colorados and that, despite everything that has happened, it is still a privilege.

I imagine that the end of the line, whether of an old tram, a bus or even a train, shouldn’t (and should!) be the most beautiful image to see, so much so for the anecdotal tone that gained the expression. In an older time, the last ones who were fatally left were relegated to a not so good fate and to places where most never want or would like to be.

Because if there was any doubt about the destiny (or even the lack of it) of Inter de Mano Menezes, I think it was dissipated last night. And the title expression I use at this moment, because the team’s results on the field do not only reflect the coach’s technical, tactical and moral incapacity. They are also the purest reflection of the inept command of Internacional’s management, people who, strictly speaking, never had good will for the Club, because, if they had, they would never have risked this silly management idea.

Internacional has reached the end of the line because, simply put, it has nowhere else to go. Yes, they took us nowhere. When it comes to football, we are nothing with anything.

I think I left a good legacy for my performance in the department. Sometimes on the street I meet someone from the old days and everyone shows me sympathy and respect. So, I think I did a good job. But there were some people who didn’t think so. That way of ‘speaking your mind’ (here I’m even very restrained) and doing things right, according to my own judgment, displeased many people. I think they saw me as a threat, but they couldn’t dismiss me without consequences. I was there for merit and you don’t depose someone that easy.

Even though I didn’t build and conquer so much in life, it’s my fault it’s good to point out, I had enough manhood, respect and self-esteem, not to subject myself to being treated like a “potato bag” by anyone. Not because it was better, far from it, but because I didn’t accept that bosses and kiss-ass might think they would tame me, that they would make fun of what I was there. And I’m happy to be the way I am today.

I had the manhood to know that “they will pass and I will be a bird”. I asked for exemption. There are things in people’s lives that are more important than speech, dreams and expectations. I needed to keep looking at myself in the mirror without feeling ashamed of myself.

Well then. Since courage is not the strong point of those who command Internacional, as it was not those who tried to command me, the time has come for Mano Menezes to have the manliness to ask for the cap. And, honestly, Barcellos should do the same.

The problem is that this is hard to believe for someone who is already at the end of the line. But, manhood is the keyword.
