At the end of the summer, BAK will start creating regional structures

We gathered in Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber, to prevent the agricultural disaster. From year to year, the condition of the farmers becomes more and more difficult. Until now, the Ministry of Agriculture has taken advantage of the disunity between the organizations and ruled on the principle of “divide and rule”. Among our important goals is our membership in the European agricultural organization “Copa and Kodžeka”, so that we do not learn the latest news from Brussels. We want to represent the interests of small and large farmers, organic and conventional farmers, everyone. We are open to everyone.

This is what the founders of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber said today (GARDEN) on press conference in Sofia. The members of the already registered chamber are the National Association of Grain Producers, the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association, the National Association of Bulgarian Vinegrowers, the Association for Professional Beekeeping, the Dobrudja Orchard Union, the Bulgarian Association of Raspberry and Berry Growers, the Bulgarian Association of Honey and Beekeeping Organizations
products, Association of Bulgarian Buffalo Breeders, Branch Chamber “Fruits and Vegetables”, National Association of Potato Producers, National Association of Tobacco Producers – 2010, Federation of Breeding Organizations in Cattle Breeding and Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Production Producers. They represent over 10,000 farmers.

Before the press conference began, the chamber, represented by the chairman Kostadin Kostadinov, and the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, in the person of the general director Kiril Valchev, signed a partnership agreement.

Svetlana Boyanova was introduced as the executive director of BAC (as Agro Plovdiv first reported yesterday in an interview with Yordan Krastanov, chairman of BAPOP).

“I would love for BAC to include more branch organizations, for Bulgarian producers to be united and united, and for us to have a worthy place in Kopa and Kodzheka,” said the co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association, Simeon Karakolev. It became clear that the amount of the membership fee for BAC has not yet been determined, but it will be different and will be tailored to the members of the branch organization that wants to join the chamber.

Chairman Kostadin Kostadinov explained that there are 80-90 branch organizations registered in our country and the results of the fragmented agricultural structures are clearly visible – stagnant agriculture, dissatisfied producers, destructive imports of fruits and vegetables, and since last year also of grain and sunflowers.

The founders explained that working groups on various topics are being prepared inside the chamber. BAC will soon announce its first legislative initiatives. Next week, the chamber will present itself to the agricultural commission in the National Assembly, and one of the topics will be the creation of a bill for branch organizations and an agricultural chamber.

The chamber’s working groups can come up with a motivated proposal for changes to the Strategic Plan.

The Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber is not registered as a member of the Monitoring Committee under the SP, but a large part of its members will participate in the meetings and through them changes in the Strategic Plan can be initiated, explained Svetlana Boyanova.

At the end of the summer, when the agricultural work decreases, BAC will hold a number of meetings in every area of the country. The creation of regional representations of the chamber is planned.

BAK is a chamber of manufacturers and for now we do not plan to unite with processors. They have their own chamber, but it does not prevent a common structure to be created at some point, explained Simeon Karakolev. Svetlana Boyanova pointed out that there is also a division between producers and processors in the EU. Kopa i Kodžeka, for example, is a union of pzedele producers and cooperatives. Processors have other structures.

Regarding the membership criteria, BAC indicated that they are written very clearly in the Chamber’s Charter, which is public.

Farmers are members of the chamber, and social organizations, universities, institutions can be associate members of BAK.

There are associations that chose not to join the chamber and others that are preparing to become its members very soon. Among those who refused was an organization of industrial livestock breeders who preferred to participate in a single format with processors.

If there is a new Minister of Agriculture soon, our first question to him will be “How will you protect Bulgarian production”, Kostadin Kostadinov said.
