The use of all types of recycled plastics in new vehicles has become a common trend in the auto industry, with most companies doing their part to make the world a better place. SEAT contributes to this movement with a new special edition of the Ibiza supermini and the subcompact hatchback Arona.

Named Marina Pack, the two new versions of the special edition feature Seaqual Yarn seat covers, exclusive to these models. Additionally, they feature Label blue by Borgers recycled polyester fibers sourced from marine plastics in their floors and carpets, and this material is spread throughout the Ibiza and Arona families.

The Seaqual Yarn is part of the Mediterranean car brand’s collaboration with the Seaqual Initiative. Label blue by Borgers represents a new partnership between SEAT and Autoneum, as they are the first car manufacturer to use these materials. In both cases, the two companies join local communities, fishermen, NGOs and authorities to clean up the world’s seas and oceans.

Garbage is collected from the sea, ocean floor and surface and from beaches, estuaries and rivers. Subsequently, the different types of materials are separated and the plastic is then cleaned and turned into recycled marine plastic. It is then used to create the green seat coverings of the Marina Pack variants of the SEAT Ibiza and Arona and the marine polyester fibers used in the floors and carpets in the rest of the range.

Apart from the ecological materials used in their construction, the SEAT Ibiza Marina Pack and Arona Marina Pack do not seem to have any additional updates. The automaker has not announced anything else about them, other than the fact that they are scheduled to go into production starting next month (June 2023). The images that accompany the press release reveal the two models in red with possible chrome strips, on the black interiors with labels sewn on the front seats that emphasize their ecological character.

Specifications for the model:

Both are well equipped and we can see things like the tablet-like infotainment system placed above the central air vents, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with two-zone function and automatic transmissions. Furthermore, the Arona pictured, which is practically the same car based on the MQB A0 platform, has been equipped with a sunroof to let in more natural light.

Construction is the cornerstone of many other vehicles born under the roof of the Volkswagen Group, including Audi A1, Skoda Fabia, Scala and Kamiq, VW Polo, T-Cross, Virtus and others. As a final note, we remind you that SEAT is not marketed in the United States and does not plan to expand its operations on the left side of the Atlantic Ocean.
