On the billboard there are more than interesting films: ‘20,000 species of bees’, ‘Good company’, ‘Sisu’, ‘The eternal daughter’, ‘Infernal possession’. And then there is… ‘this’, performed by a handful of people we once admired, loved and even desired. ‘This’ is simply appalling. As can only be anything that begins with a pathetic phrase from Paulo Coelho! written on black screen background. ‘This’ falls into all the clichés about mature women (I’m not referring naturally to either Mrs. Robinson from ‘The Graduate’ or Vizinczey’s novel). mature. Delicious. Half sad half dissatisfied. Insubstantial.
‘This’ is a compilation of clichés about Yankee tourists (even if they are New Yorkers) who, moreover, are ripped off in Venice. This is a vulgarly filmed piece of celluloid, flaccidly counted, lit up like an expensive postcard by someone who has never been too flashy. Neither in ‘Love Again’ nor in ‘The State vs. Billie Holiday’. ‘This’ is occupying a screen that deserves much more titles like ‘Blanquita’ and closing the way to small astral conjunctions like ‘Sica’, which you won’t see because people who meant everything to some of us make the memo in front of a camera silly. And then they will say that mature actresses do not have opportunities in today’s cinema. For ‘this’, better to retire on time and with honor.
