Ambition and Illusion to spare has been squandered in the official presentation of ‘El Conquistador’, the new TVE contest based on the successful format that ETB has broadcast for almost two decades. Julián Iantzi will also be the presenter of this new version that is committed to further promoting the adventure by the same production company, Hostoil, directed by Patxi Alonso.
Adventure, maximum risk, survival, epic, crying, pain,… were some of the most repeated words during the launch of the ‘reality’ by its presenters and managers. María Eizaguirre, director of Communications for the public entity from San Sebastián, defined the program as “different, addictive and authentic”.
The illusion of all the members of the program is maximum hours before the recordings begin at a point in the Caribbean, specifically in the Hitises National Park in the Dominican Republic. They will travel there shortly with the members of the three teams of contestants who will compete for the final grand prize, 100,000 euros. Joana Pastrana, Patxi Salinas and Cesc Escolà are its captains.
“It is an adventure and extreme risk format that was missing on RTVE, and which has been tested with great success on Euskadi public television,” explained María Bordas, the entity’s director of Originals. More details about the success of El Conquis on ETB gave Amparo Castellano, from the production company: “it is a real program, young people have joined in a spectacular way and they also follow us from Australia and South America.”

Some 1,500 people have signed up for the castings from which the 18 men and 15 women who will finally star in TVE’s El Conquistador have already emerged.

Julian Iantzi has developed a large part of his career in front of the ETB cameras but he is a face known at the state level for his participation in La Sexta programs or on TVE itself, where he was one of the MasterChef contestants. For her part, Raquel Sánchez Silva has gone through several channels-she started on the newscast as an editor and occasional presenter-and she knows the dynamics of this type of reality show well, since she presented Survivors or Big Brother VIP. Both have also been presenters of the running of the bulls of San Fermín.
«Here there is epic, there is real pain, real crying… And this can only be given by an adventure program like this; It is going to be the experience of a lifetime for these 33 contestants because the satisfaction is proportional to the suffering”, warned the journalist from Extremadura.
Three teams: girls, boys and mixed
The contestants are divided into three teams that must pass various tests that will test their mental and physical strength. Joana Pastrana (former boxer), Patxi Salinas (former Athletic Bilbao soccer player) and Cesc Escolà (fitness teacher at Operación Triunfo), are the captains of the three teams (girls, boys and mixed).
