These beautiful flowers look very cute and smell wonderful. So it’s not surprising that many people have it in their garden. Yet this plant is not as harmless as it seems. All parts of the plant contain a toxin called mezerein. This substance is mainly in the bark and in the berries of the plant. Eating these can lead to a burning sensation in the mouth, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, drowsiness or excitement. Problems with the stomach and intestines can last for a long time. Dust particles from the bark can also cause inflamed nasal mucous membranes and tear eyes.

Foxglove (Digitalis)

Another flower that looks very beautiful, but can still be dangerous. Foxglove contains, among other things, the poison digitoxin. High doses of any part of the plant can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, hallucinations, delirium and very serious symptoms such as slow heart rate, tremor and sometimes fatal heart disturbances. If you have children or pets who put all kinds of things in their mouths, it is better to avoid this plant.

Oleander (Nerium oleander)

The oleander is a beautiful flower that loves warm weather. So ideal for the summer. Nevertheless, it is advisable to keep the plant far away from children. Eating even a small piece of leaf or flower can cause dizziness, abdominal pain and heart rhythm disturbances. The juice of the plant can cause irritated and painful skin when touched.

This shrub can be found in many different gardens. Logical, you can go in many directions with it. What is a disadvantage is that all parts of the yew are poisonous. You do not have to suffer from yew poisoning right away, but if there are noticeable symptoms, it is often an accelerated heartbeat and convulsions. In very serious cases cardiac or respiratory arrest may occur.

Hydrangea’s (Hydrangea)

Perhaps the most famous plant in this list: the hydrangea. Almost everyone has this plant in their garden. However, it can be dangerous for both humans and animals. It contains cyanide. It makes you vomit, you get diarrhea and it affects the blood circulation. Fortunately, it can only be fatal in very large quantities.

Daffodils also belong to the list of poisonous plants. The bulb in particular is very poisonous. If you have a dog or child that likes to dig, it is better to omit this plant. Eating it leads to vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
