The singer-actress Lilit Nagar was one of the biggest stars of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, both as a singer, on television and in the movies.

The songs “Shadow of a Date Tree and Moonlight”, “Lemon Lemonero”, “Don’t Take Everything to Heart” (with Robert Helens), “Shoshana, Shoshana”, “The Good Angel Will Appear”, “A Lonely Singer is the Heart” (another day will come), “On Taste and Smell” (with Jacques Cohen) and “Devka Rafih” which she originally performed became classics over the years and established her position as one of the favorite singers in our regions and as the pioneer of the Mizrahi singer in Israel. In the cinema she starred in films such as “Midnight Entertainer” and “The End of Milton Levy” and on television, as an actress, she became especially famous in the series “Michel Ezra Safra and his sons”.

Along with many TV programs and festivals that she hosted, Nagar also starred in the Arabic children’s TV program “The Flying Carpet” in the 1970s, which was a great success. When her 30-year career on the screen was over, she decided to retire at the peak, stopped performing and now embraces culture as a viewer and listener.

The meeting between Dodi Fatimer and Bina took place about eight years ago, when he met her at her home, documented her story and work and served as a production assistant in the release of the double collection album of her songs (published by “Hataklit Haifa”). Since then, the friendly relationship between them has been maintained.

Now Dodi has chosen to dedicate this chapter of “Words and Melody” to Nagar, her work and her songs as a salute to her contribution to Israeli culture.
