Saga of Sins will take us into a story set in the time of the crusades, with a platform game where we will have to face the minds of sinners

Saga of Sins is a game that came to me by surprise. A title that I was completely unaware of and that I had to analyze and was pleasantly surprised. And it is that the title developed by Bonus Level Entertainment and edited by Just For Games mixes a very interesting story with a very satisfying arcade gameplay, as well as a very beautiful and interesting artistic section, inspired by the art of El Bosco. If your curiosity has been piqued by this game, stay with us to find out everything about it.

A world devastated by the plague

The title story begins with our protagonist Cecil, a cleric who returns from the crusades and finds a desolate city. Everything is devastated by the plague, full of death and misery, being the cause of the inhabitants being involved in sin. For this reason, the priest of the city tells us that pWe can enter the minds of these sinners, turned into monsters, to fight against all the evils of those minds, saving them. This priest tells us that in each mind there is a kind of heart that we must recover and deliver, so that it can save the entire city. The story is quite interesting but nothing surprising and very classic.

Very arcade and frenetic minds

Saga of Sins has two very different parts. One of them is when we explore the city and interact with the different characters, controlling our character as if it were a graphic or narrative adventure. The other side of the title and the main one is when we delve into the minds of sinners. Here we will find a very arcade and frenetic platform adventure, where we will control our protagonist in the form of a monster. Each mind will be totally different from the others, depending on the sin that character is performing.. For example, the minds of lazy people will be covered in mud that prevents us from moving normally, or the minds of greedy people will be full of coins that, instead of being added to our counter, will subtract from us when we take them.

Another very important aspect is the abilities of our character, in addition to the forms that it can take. The game features four different monsters, with their own abilities and moves.. For example, one is more effective against aerial enemies, another can scale walls. This is something very interesting since it avoids repetition and gives replayability to the levels, since there are collectible chests that we will have to play with another monster to get them. Saga of Sins also has character improvements. The levels are full of coins that we can get to improve all the monsters. Not only can we enter sinful minds, we can also enter innocent minds where numerous treasures await us. We will also have final enemies that are very forgettable. The duration of the title is about 5-7 hours.

As if it were a work of art

The art design of Saga of Sins is very good. As we have previously commented, the game is strongly inspired by the works of El Bosco, so if we know something about his works we can see reminiscences of them throughout the game. Everything in the game is quite beautiful, so much so that it seems that we are facing a moving painting. Saving the distances, it reminds me enormously of Pentiment. The game, on my Xbox Series X, runs wonderfully, without any kind of slowdowns, frame drops or graphic bugs.

The sound aspect of the title also has a good level. The soundtrack is quite good, with very good melodies that blend in very well with the action of the game. The voices of the characters, interpreted in English, have a high level, although some characters are somewhat forced in their interpretations. The game has voices in English, but it is fully translated into Spanish.

Saga of Sins Conclusions

Saga of Sins is a more than worthy game. A very competent platform adventure, with an interesting story that is not common in this type of game. The theme of entering the minds of sinners and depending on the sin, one level being totally different from another is very accurate. The artistic section is also a great success, it seems that we are facing a work of art in motion. It is true that the title has a short duration, even if we are going to get 100% and a secret ending, and the final bosses are forgettable, but despite this, it is a highly recommended title.
