Pharmacist sells rapid tests for healthcare workers to his clients

A Montreal pharmacist was reprimanded for selling rapid tests that were intended for health network personnel.

While Quebecers are struggling to find screening kits, the pharmacist owner wanted to help his customers get them.

However, the Ministry of Health asked him to stop this practice, explaining that the instructions for these tests are not the same as for those made available to the general population. Improper use could therefore distort the results.

“These tests are not supposed to be sold,” explained to TVA Nouvelles the president of the Quebec Association of Owner Pharmacists (AQPP), Benoit Morin.

“It is certain that the demand is strong, people are ready to pay, but there is no self-test currently available in pharmacies to be resold,” he added.

Mr. Morin mentions, however, that some pharmacies may offer, for a certain fee, a screening service, but this will be carried out with a test other than the one distributed to the population.
