Double ration on yesterday’s Tour of the Central Mountain. In the morning, the team time trial was held between Pola de Laviana and Soto de Agues, in which the Eolo Kometa team from Madrid, from the Fundación Contador, achieved victory ahead of the Cantabrian team Bathco and the Asturian MMR Academy, who occupied the third position.
In the afternoon it was the runner Héctor Álvarez who was proclaimed the winner in Pola de Laviana, after an attack on the ascent to the top of Faya de los Lobos. The leader’s jersey changed shoulders again and is now worn by the Eolo Kometa rider Miguel Domínguez.
The stage was shot at a great pace, with hardly any escape attempts. The riders of the Eolo Kometa team controlled to score points in the flying goals and keep the Hungarian Balazs Laszlo Pollnerel at the head of this classification. The peloton remained compact until the ascent to Faya de los Lobos began. On the ascent to the pass, different groups formed and Héctor Álvarez, a rider from the De La Uz-Lucta team, led an attack that no one could withstand and left alone, leading the way over the pass. On the way down, the pursuers tried to hunt him down to no avail and he appeared alone at the Pola de Laviana finish line. In this way, the man from Castellón achieved his second victory in the Vuelta a la Montaña Central de Asturias and is the leader in the mountain classification, points classification and first-year junior. The group in which Miguel Domínguez (Eolo Kometa) was traveling arrived 32 seconds away.
The mayor of Laviana, Julio García, was in charge of presenting the prize to the winner of the stage. The president of the federation, José Antonio Díaz Soto; Luis Miguel Rodríguez, from Tartiere Auto, the former cyclist Manuel Jorge Domínguez and the race director, Emilio Fernández, were in charge of handing out the rest of the prizes.
Today the final stage will be held, starting at the ASLA Factory, elZinc, in the Villayana industrial estate, and finishing at Pola de Lena. The runners will have to face an 88-kilometre route, with flying goals located in Caborana and Pola de Lena, and with two 3rd category ascents to Alto de Carabanzo, which will conclude the race.
