On September 24, the five seats of senators from Essonne will be renewed. About 2,500 electors (municipal, departmental, regional councillors, deputies and senators) will be called to the polls. Like every six years, the big maneuvers have already started within the different political parties in order to each propose their list. But the mayor of Corbeil-Essonnes (DVG), Bruno Piriou, has decided to put his two cents in and calls for a break from this party logic. The elected official specifies from the outset that he will not be a candidate in this election.

For this, he invites the electors to a first meeting on Wednesday May 24, at 7:30 p.m., at the MJC Fernand-Leger in Corbeil-Essonnes. “We have to break the fact that it is discussed between parties. The left is still preparing to leave divided, it pisses me off! As mayor of the first left-wing town in the department, I don’t want to be a spectator, so I put my feet up. »

“75% of these major voters in Essonne are not members of political parties”

Since the death of Olivier Léonhardt (DVG) on February 2, 2022, the left no longer has a senator in Essonne, which Bruno Piriou regrets, for whom the role of the upper house is important: “Who knows, for example, that among of the five senators from Essonne, four voted for the adoption of the text bringing retirement to 64 and one abstained. None voted against. These parliamentarians derive their legitimacy from the electors. When did they come back to them to explain the meaning of their vote? »

He also notes that “75% of these major voters in Essonne are not members of political parties”. Faced with losing traditional parties, Bruno Piriou invites the electors to come “to discuss the content of a senatorial program and the candidates to present, which senators we need to defend our values, our projects, rather than let the parties present us with a fait accompli. »
