Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani stressed the need to continue developing the performance and capabilities of the Iraqi forces in facing security challenges.

The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by Al-Masalla, that the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, received the new commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission in Iraq, Jose Antonio, while Al-Sudani bid farewell to the former commander of the mission, Giovanni Iannucci, after the end of his duties in Iraq. In the presence of the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

He added that during the meeting, they discussed paths of cooperation between Iraq and NATO countries, in the areas of providing advice and training the Iraqi security forces.

The Prime Minister praised the role of the former commander of the mission during his tenure in Iraq, wishing him success in his future duties.

Al-Sudani welcomed the new head of the NATO mission, stressing the need to continue developing the performance and capabilities of the Iraqi forces in facing security challenges, which are among the government’s priorities in managing the security file.

The former commander of the NATO mission thanked the Prime Minister for his support of the mission’s work, pointing to the completion of the cooperation program with Iraq through the new commander who recently assumed his duties.

In another context, Al-Sudani received the Minister of Interior of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mazen Abdullah Al-Faraya, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Minister of Interior. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance security cooperation between Iraq and brotherly Jordan, in the field of exchanging experiences, and facilitating the entry of citizens from Both countries, as well as discussing cooperation in the areas of confronting terrorism and extremism, and combating drug trafficking.

The Prime Minister welcomed the guest delegation, appreciating the stances of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein on pivotal issues in the region.

He referred to the level of economic cooperation between Iraq and Jordan and the common desire to develop it, in a way that contributes to promoting development for the two countries, indicating that sustainable security is a precursor to development and prosperity.

Al-Sudani stressed the need to confront security challenges in the region, and the importance of high coordination between the two countries, in order to confront the scourge of drugs, which has become a threat to our youth and threatens the fabric of our societies.

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Interior conveyed the greetings of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, to the Prime Minister, and his wishes for further development and prosperity for Iraq, praising the efforts of the Iraqi security forces in combating terrorism, which poses a real threat to all countries in the region and the world, as indicated by the minister. The Jordanian government expressed his country’s desire to cooperate with Iraq in various security files, foremost of which is drug control and joint cooperation in confronting it.
