get out of” incapacity “ and some “complacency”put “a halt to mass immigration”or to a « submersion »… In the Sunday newspaper (JDD) of May 21, three tenors of the Les Républicains (LR) party offered themselves a forum to detail the two bills – ordinary and constitutional – on immigration that their movement intends to table in the coming days; and whose inclusion on the agenda in the Senate could be done in the fall.
In a cross interview, the leader of the LR deputies Olivier Marleix, the president of the LR senators Bruno Retailleau and the number one of the party, Eric Ciotti, say they want to comply with the “popular will”.
The first text they announce comes under a constitutional law which, according to Bruno Retailleau, would make it possible to break with a “government of judges” and to reaffirm in particular the primacy of national law over international standards when the subject concerns the fundamental interests of the nation. According to LR, this legislation would also aim to “allow a referendum” on immigration,“elevate the principle of assimilation to constitutional rank” or even to have Parliament vote on quotas for immigrants and to limit asylum to the processing of applications submitted to consular posts.
Another bill, ordinary, would this time aim to make illegal residence on French territory a criminal offense again, to tighten the criteria for family reunification, to increase tuition fees for non-EU students, to further restrict the care accessible to undocumented foreigners, to index development aid to the cooperation of countries to allow the expulsion of their nationals, to make it impossible for a child born on the territory to acquire French nationality but whose parents were undocumented papers at the time or to condition the right to benefit from social protection to five years of presence.
Casting a Macronian “at the same time” impossible
By staging a “right solution”the three tenors of LR castigate an impossible ” at the same time ” Macronian which would consist in wanting to deport more while regularizing undocumented workers.
