Abolition and post-abolition in Bahia is the subject of debate on 05/18, at 6 pm, at the Malês campus

With the aim of bringing reflections on the date May 13, as well as the process of abolition in Brazil, the event will be held Abolition & Post-Abolition in Bahia, this Thursday (18/05), at 6 pm, in the auditorium of the Malês campus. On the occasion, there is a debate about the book What side do you samba? Race, Politics and Science in Bahia in the post-abolition period, work that opens space and launches reflection to think about Brazilian society in the post-abolition context – which is why it dialogues with the event of May 13th.

Participating in the debate are professors Wlamyra Albuquerque, historian of the Dept. of History at UFBA, which works in the area of ​​ethnic-racial relations; Gabriela Sampaio, historian who works at the Dept. of History at UFBA, in the area of ​​History of Brazil, with studies on slavery and Afro-Brazilian religiosities; and Juliana B. Farias (Unilab-Malês), historian of the Collegiate of History of IHL-Malês, who works in the area of ​​African History.

The event is open to the public and is mainly aimed at the scientific community – students, academics, professors, graduate students and the academic community in general. This debate is organized by the Collegiate of History, together with the Institute of Humanities and Letters at Unilab/ Malês campus.
