Three people in absolute emergency were taken care of after « accidents » occurred on the Teknival site which brought together, Friday, May 19, around 20,000 people on agricultural land in Villegongis (Indre), announced the prefect of the department, Stéphane Bredin. The number of participants could rise to 30,000 later today. “We anticipate a second wave from this evening and probably throughout the day tomorrow”underlined Mr. Bredin during a press briefing.
Since the beginning of Teknival, installed by surprise Thursday morning in this small village of 110 inhabitants despite the ban decreed by the prefecture, “the rescuers took care of 138 people on the site” in total, detailed the prefect of Indre. Among them, thirty-five were “medical treatment” at the outpost set up in the center of Villegongis, of which “Three people in absolute emergency for accidents related to the concentration of teknivaliers on the site”he explained.
One of these victims is a 40-year-old man, under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, who fell asleep and woke up under a car with severe chest pain, according to a source close to the case. He spoke without difficulty and refused to file a complaint. The days of this man, who was hospitalized in Châteauroux, were not in danger on Friday afternoon, according to the prefecture.
Two people in custody
A total of seven Teknival participants were taken to hospital, according to the latest report. The authorities are counting on a significant increase in attendance at the Teknival, which is celebrating its 30e anniversary and has not been held since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The device for maintaining order (270 gendarmes mobilized on Friday), medical and logistics (supply of drinking water in particular) “has been sized to ensure the safety, in particular health, of at least 30,000 teknivaliers in the next two days”, said Mr. Bredin. Checks by the security forces around the Teknival led to the placement in police custody of two people, for “traffic offense and driving under the influence of narcotics”, and at least twenty-three people were fined for consumption or possession of narcotics. In total, more than 280 vehicles and 340 people were checked, according to figures given by the prefect.
