New residential buildings in Berlin are being built from these building materials

by time news

Berlin – More and more wooden houses are being built in Berlin. While in 2017 147 residential buildings were mainly made of wood, in 2020 there were already 170 houses. This emerges from the response of the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing to a request from the Member of Parliament Sebastian Schluesselburg (left). The proportion of wooden houses increased from 7.57 percent in 2017 to 10.7 percent in 2020. With 395 buildings, most of the new buildings in the past year were built predominantly from sand-lime bricks, which corresponds to a share of almost 25 percent. A short distance behind are buildings made of aerated concrete (392) and reinforced concrete (383). Behind it are new buildings made of bricks (183).

Oil hardly plays a role anymore

The energy mainly used for heating in the residential buildings is still gas, which is used in 34.3 percent of the new houses built in 2020. This is followed by district heating, which is used in almost 29 percent of the newly built houses. Environmental thermal energy, in which the heat is extracted from air or water, accounts for a good 25 percent. Oil, on the other hand, hardly plays a role anymore. Less than one percent of the residential buildings built in 2020 will still be heated with oil.
