The mobilization of associations fighting against homophobia in football continues, more than a week after the dedicated world day and the events that took place on the lawns of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 on the weekend of May 13 and 14. This Tuesday, the LGBT Families association filed a complaint with the Paris police headquarters for “homophobic public insults and provocations” against one of the broadcasters of the French championship, Amazon Prime Video.

According to the filing of the complaint, to which we had access, LGBT Families explains that “during the replays of these matches, we can hear several chants of supporters, coming from the stands. Some of these songs are of a pronounced homophobic nature”. Three matches are targeted in particular, still at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille: the OM-Lorient matches on January 14, OM-PSG on February 26 and OM-Strasbourg on March 12.

Each time, the same insulting song: “We must kill these queers from Lorient (or Parisians, or Strasbourg)”. The association therefore denounces the dissemination of “public insults towards a group of people because of their sexual orientation” and “public provocation to hatred or violence against a group of people because of their sexual orientation”.

LGBT Families is supported in its approach by the Rouge Direct collective. “We are filing a complaint against Amazon so that the broadcaster and the Professional Football League react, describes Julien Pontes, spokesperson. These insults must be punished. We don’t do it for fun. But we must remember that we do it to save lives. Hearing these songs is not normal”.
