VKontakte will introduce two-factor authentication in all services

by time news

The Russian social network VKontakte announced the creation of a new user protection program – VK Protect. With its help, two-factor authentication via VK ID will appear in all services of the ecosystem.

For administrators of VKontakte communities with more than 10 thousand subscribers, two-factor authentication will become mandatory from February 2022. According to VKontakte, there are more than 140,000 such communities on the social network. Also, at the beginning of 2022, VKontakte will launch the User Security Control Center – it will be possible to assess the security status of the user account, and new privacy and access settings will also appear there. The program of payments for finding vulnerabilities on VKontakte will be restarted.

In December 2021, scammers hacked into the official Yandex Go community on the VKontakte social network and sent phishing links to subscribers with an offer to win a prize. The reason for the hack was the weak security of the administrator’s account.
