It’s one more case, one too many that continues to cause a stir in the world of football. Messages of support are raining down. The demands for severity too, coming in particular from the highest political authorities in Brazil. Vinicius, the Real Madrid striker was once again the victim of racist insults on Sunday during a Spanish league match in Valencia.

Since Monday, reactions have been numerous and the Spanish authorities have taken action. “The police arrested three young people today (Tuesday) in Valencia for the racist behavior that took place on Sunday during the match between Valencia and Real Madrid”, communicated the body. The club reacted immediately by announcing “that they will be banned from the stadium for life” and also warning “against the manipulation of images which accuse the entire Mestalla stadium of racism. »

Regularly targeted since his arrival in the Spanish capital in 2018, Vinicius has been targeted with insults and monkey cries. These attacks, denounced by the player and by Real Madrid, prompted the Valencian public prosecutor’s office to open an investigation for “hate crime”, a criminal category including racist offenses in Spain. The Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) said for its part that it was analyzing the images in order to identify “the perpetrators of these insults and behavior to propose the appropriate sanctions”.

This new incident has sparked strong reactions in Spain where the presence of racism in stadiums has long been denounced by players and associations who consider the problem insufficiently taken seriously. “It wasn’t the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The league thinks it’s normal,” the Brazilian forward posted on his Instagram account.

Earlier this Tuesday morning, the Spanish police had already announced that they had arrested four people accused of having hanged a model with the effigy of Vinicius on a bridge before the quarter-final of the King’s Cup Real – Atlético at the end of January.

Alongside the police action, the Spanish federation has also raised its voice. According to the AS newspaper, six VAR referees were dismissed for serious misconduct, including Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva, who officiated at VAR on Sunday during the match against Valencia, where Vinicius was sent off at the end of the match when he was strangle by Hugo Duro. A sanction which however does not concern racist songs, because according to the federation, the field referee respected the protocol.
