Opened fifty years ago, the centre commercial from flanades to teal (Val d’Oise) is getting older. As a result, 50 million euros have been released to turn this place into a car-free city centre, reports The Parisian. An initiative that could revitalize the entire Grand Ensemble, which concentrates 60% of the local population.

A transformed city center

Of the 50 million euros for the project, 35 million have been invested by La Compagnie des Bâtiments Parisiens, its owner, to open and discover the shopping center. This will make it possible to reduce the charges while opening up the district. A G20 supermarket will arrive in September. The commercial area of the center will also be reduced in favor of a university, cultural and digital space. For now, the traders in place do not know if they will be moved or compensated.

At the same time, the surroundings of Les Flanades, ie 21,000 m2, will be renovated for nearly 20 million euros financed by the public authorities, with restaurants, cultural venues, and even an intergenerational building. A metamorphosis which should also be accompanied by work to bring the middle classes back to Sarcelles, as desired by some locals.
