The 44-year-old has successfully devoted himself to television entertainment in recent years. But he can also deal with very serious and complex issues, as he shows in a six-part documentary series.

Joko Winterscheidt is looking for answers to climate change in his new series “The World’s Most Dangerous Show”. “I’ve been doing entertainment for about 20 years, but I still had this one question: Maybe I never went far enough. I’ve always considered the playground I’ve trodden to be indestructible. But it’s not reality,” says Winterscheidt in a trailer released on Thursday. “We’re not looking to the future, and the climate crisis is coming. We’re right in the middle of it. What we’re looking for in this documentary is hope.”

The six-part documentary about the impending climate catastrophe will be available on Prime Video from June 7th. Winterscheidt (44) faces “his fears and helplessness in dealing with the climate crisis,” says a Prime Video message. “He goes in search of ideas, solutions and above all: hope. But isn’t it already too late for that? To find out, Joko travels to places that are already directly affected by climate change, meets committed people, who have taken up the fight against hopelessness with innovative ideas and are made aware of their limits and their own contradictions.”

With the entrepreneur Bill Gates, the climate activist Luisa Neubauer, the sustainability researcher Marco Springmann and the presenter Aminata Belli, as well as guests such as Christoph Maria Herbst, Meret Becker and Uwe Ochsenknecht, Winterscheidt tackles hot topics: the food industry, the CO2 footprint, the contested lignite mining area Hambach Forest and more. He travels to Africa, Denmark, Iceland and the USA to give people a voice.

“On his visually stunning, emotional and surprisingly entertaining journey, Joko faces what is perhaps the greatest challenge of his career,” announces Prime Video. “Because despite his optimistic approach, Joko has to learn that good will alone is not enough and that there are no easy answers. The deeper he dives into the complex topic, the more an uncomfortable question arises: how fundamentally does our social system have to change, to avert disaster?” (dpa)
