Luis Andrés Colmenares, the young university student whose death in 2010 caused great commotion and controversy in Colombia, has once again captured attention. On this occasion, his father has revealed the existence of a moving letter that Luis Andrés wrote when he was just a child, in which he expressed his love and apologized to his father, Alonso Colmenares.
The letter, protected during all these years by the father of Luis Andrés, has recently come to light. Luis Andrés’s father decided to share this family treasure to show his son’s human and sensitive side.
In the letter, Luis Andrés expresses his affection and gratitude towards his father. In it, he apologizes for any mistake he has made and expresses his desire to always be a good son. Furthermore, he mentions his admiration for his father and his desire to follow in his footsteps in life.. “Daddy, I apologize for the note I gave you last night, but like every human, I’m wrong, but daddy, I promise I won’t bring you another one, because you always comply with me, so I have to comply with you”, begins by saying the emotional letter.
“Daddy, in this letter I want to thank you because I always count on your support, affection and love,” he adds.
This gesture of revealing the personal letter of Luis Andrés Colmenares took place on May 23, date in which the then student of the University of Los Andes would be turning 33 years old.
Through his Twitter account, Alfonso Colmenares published this an emotional message along with a video and photographs of his son Luis Andrés.
“Happy birthday in heaven, Luis Andrés! Many years will pass, Luis Andrés (RIP), those that have to pass, I don’t know how many, God will say, but As I meet you again I will always remember you, the day you gave us the greatest happiness.” wrote the boy’s father.

Likewise, his father went to the place where they found Colmenares 13 years ago and along with a photograph next to his son’s tombstone, he wrote on Twitter: “This is where I never thought or wanted to visit you to wish you a happy birthday Luis Andrés (RIP) There I left my prayer for you to continue celebrating in heaven, “wrote the young man’s father.
Similarly, his mother, Oneida Escobar, dusted off a photo of her son that she posted through her Instagram account.
“My dear Luigui, 13 years have passed in which I have had to live on memories and feed my memory of those moments in which I was fortunate to have you by my side. Today you would be turning 33 years old and although it is impossible not to think about how you would be at this moment, thoughts like seeing you already graduated, enjoying life, perhaps already married or with children come to my mind. Today, in the midst of pain, I decided to keep those memories of your beautiful smile, I remember that when your birthdays were approaching, you asked me what I was going to give you, Today I would like to be able to have you to continue giving you my love and everything that can be given to someone who loves each other so much.. Now I cannot offer you anything material, but if I continue to live in honor of you, I only have the consolation of looking at the sky and asking God to celebrate you with his heavenly court. With all my love I send you all the hugs and kisses that I have not been able to give you. I love you and miss you my everlasting love,” Oneida wrote.
