At the gate of the famous villa on the shores of Lake Zurich hangs a sign “Please do not call before noon.” The address “Seestrasse 180” has been known to all fans of rock and roll for many years: since the late 90s, Tina Turner lived here with her husband. Reporters have been on duty here since yesterday evening, and fans and residents of the town of Küschnacht, which is part of the canton of Zurich, bring notes, flowers and candles. After the singer’s manager posted on Instagram with the sad news, condolences come from all over the world.

Today, the gates of the mansion are expectedly crowded, cars passing by slow down and honk in gratitude to the queen of rock and roll, in which, according to neighbors, there was no stardom. Fans of different ages who came to say goodbye to Tina are quietly talking to each other in German, Spanish, English, Italian. Someone gets out of a luxury sports car, someone came by bike or came on foot. But they all carefully place flowers and notes at the gate and carefully step aside. Even farewell takes place in the style of Tina: sincerely and with dignity. “My friends and I came to say goodbye to her. You know, my middle name is Tina, and today I did my hair in her style,” the fan says, brushing away tears.

Turner was often seen at Rico’s next door, always at the same table, or shopping at the local supermarket. At the same time, bodyguards were very rarely with her, and she liked to exchange a few words with the sellers. Turner and her second husband, Cologne-born Erwin Bach, lived a solitary life that wasn’t rock ‘n’ roll at all. Her husband was by Turner’s side when she suffered a stroke in 2013 and when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. It was Erwin Bach who saved Tina Turner’s life by donating his kidney to his wife.

Turner described their first meeting in 1985 as follows: “He had an incredibly beautiful face, he was very handsome. My heart was pounding, my hands were trembling! He was just so kind, so pleasant, so different.” In 1986 she moved to him in Cologne, and since 1994 they lived together in Switzerland.

Almost ten years ago, the singer received Swiss citizenship, for which she learned German, passed a special exam and passed a country studies test: no concessions! Such a respectful attitude towards the country returned a hundredfold: the usually closed Swiss adored her and affectionately called her “an exemplary citizen.” It is not surprising that today, May 25, all the country’s newspapers came out with declarations of love on the front pages.

By the way, the star rarely gave interviews. The latter was published in the British edition of the fashion magazine Vogue in April this year. In it, Turner admitted: “I am happy to be a pensioner – at 83, I deserve it.” She recalled the past with slight bitterness: “My life was full of impressions, but there were also many sad moments that I try to forgive and forget.” Answering the question about the meaning of life, she seemed to sum up: “Probably this is the answer: to move forward, to be able to let go and try to fill life with love.”
