Today, a preparatory meeting was held at the Baku Court of Appeal on the appeal of Abbas Huseyn, an activist of the “Muslim Union” Movement.

The complaint was filed against the decision of the first instance court to toughen Huseyn’s punishment regime and transfer him to Gobustan closed prison.

According to the information given to journalists by lawyer Fakhreddin Mehdiyev, Huseyin told the court that he was beaten and tortured in prison No. 7.

“We have already filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office. We will take further steps depending on the results of the investigation. If the prosecutor’s office refuses to open a criminal case, we will appeal this decision to the court,” said the lawyer.

For her part, the activist’s sister Yaseman Huseynova said that there are still traces of violence on her brother’s face and arms.

Hearings on the merits are set for May 30.

* The chairman of the “Muslim Union” Movement, Taleh Baglrzade, Abbas Huseyn and several other activists were detained on November 26, 2015 as a result of a special operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Nardaran settlement.

The detained persons were accused of participating in a criminal group organized by Bagyrzadeh. The court found them guilty of terrorism, possession of illegal weapons, attempt to change the constitutional structure by force, resisting the police and violating other articles of the Criminal Code and sentenced them to 12 to 19 years of imprisonment. Abbas Huseyn was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He has already spent the first 7 years of his imprisonment in Gobustan prison.

He and some other activists were recognized as political prisoners.
