The 3rd edition of the San Culture Festival (FESCUSAN) officially opened its doors this Thursday, May 25, 2023 in Ouagadougou. This festival initiated by the Association for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage (ASPC), will be held from May 25 to 28, 2023 and aims to promote San culture in Burkina Faso through all its diversity.

“The San culture, a factor of resilience and social cohesion”, it is under this theme that the 3rd edition of the San culture festival will be held for four days on the grounds of the Bogodogo town hall. On the program, there are performances by artists, mask dances, exhibitions and many other surprises that are reserved for festival-goers.

Urbain Toé, president of the FESCUSAN organizing committee

According to Urbain Toé, president of the FESCUSAN organizing committee, the holding of this cultural event aims to promote the San culture commonly known as “Samo”. Further, he indicated that in the face of the security crisis that the country is going through, this festival contributes to the promotion of peace, living together and social cohesion between Burkinabè.

Also, this edition is intended to be a cultural meeting and will concern the promotion of all other Burkinabè cultures, according to Urbain Toé. “Today, culture is the basis of everything. Based on the culture, we believe that everything can come back to normal. I think that peace that we are looking for is found in the culture”he said.

The Gounrousi is the guest community of honor of the 3rd edition of the San culture festival. Welcome Ambroise Bationo, representative of the Gounrousi community in Ouagadougou, said that the Burkinabè communities in all their diversities form a single culture. To this end, he added that this activity should enable the country to regain peace and cohesion.

“We will have to work so that all the people of Burkina Faso know that we are one people, that we are together and that today there is no longer a 100% Mossi or a 100% Gourounsi. We are all half-breeds and it is together that we must move forward,” he implied.
